Uncertainty Analysis and Quality Assurance for Environmental Datasets
Online
Overview
ENROLMENT OPENING SOON
Understanding and quantifying uncertainty is central to trustworthy science and informed decision-making. This e-learning course introduces the concept of uncertainty analysis, grounded in metrology (the science of measurement), and explore its application to environmental and climate datasets. The content presented has been tailored to the needs of the ARIA Forecasting Tipping Points programme, but has wider application.
Participants will learn to identify different sources of uncertainty and communicate them transparently to support robust downstream use. The course draws on international best practices and real-world examples, including applications in climate modelling and Earth system science.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will:
Understand the importance of uncertainty analysis in relation to environmental and climate datasets
Understand key terminology and documentation relating to uncertainty analysis
Understand how uncertainty analysis can be applied to environmental and climate datasets
Understand how the ARIA programme will apply metrological approaches to uncertainty
