This online open unit will help learners understand the fundamental principles of XPS, including equipment and spectra. This course also introduces the ways XPS can be used to characterise the surface chemistry of nanoparticles. Learners will also be instructed on how to perform calculations relating to shell chemistry and thickness using the spreadsheet resource that accompanies the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamental principles of XPS
  • Become familiar with XPS equipment and spectra
  • Understand how XPS can be used to characterise the surface chemistry of nanoparticles
