Course description

This one-day e-learning course introduces a structured approach to uncertainty analysis when applied to the radiometric and spectral calibration of instruments with Earth observation applications. The course focuses on how to apply uncertainty analysis, taking users step-by-step through the concepts before introducing real laboratory and field examples. It is suitable for both a general scientific audience and experienced professionals working in the field.

The Uncertainty Analysis for Earth Observation course takes approximately four hours to complete and consists of three modules:

  • Module 1 introduces some fundamental concepts relating to uncertainty analysis and introduces a procedural approach for uncertainty analysis in Earth observation.
  • Module 2 applies the procedural approach introduced in Module 1 to a real-life practical example of radiometric instrument calibration.
  • Module 3 builds on the content introduced in Modules 1 and 2 to explore the application of uncertainty analysis to post-launch radiometric calibration techniques.

Who is it for?

All those involved in the field of earth observation, industrial professionals performing calibration of earth observation sensors, as well as those interested in understanding uncertainty analysis in relation to the instruments used in earth observation applications.
