Composites Standards and Certification — Classroom

Classroom-based

Sheets of flexible, shiny silver coloured composite material.

Overview

NPL offers bespoke training around Composites Standards and Certification, which can be delivered flexibly, either in-person or virtually. This course comprises several lectures that:

  • Provide learners with an understanding of the need for suitable Regulations, Codes and Standards (RCS) for composite materials
  • Give learners an overview of the certification process of composite structures in a number of industry sectors
  • Enable learners to analyse qualification test data and obtain appropriate design data

There are also three practical sessions on:

  • Interpretation and application of BS EN ISO 14126 Fibre-reinforced plastic composites – Determination of compressive properties in the in-plane direction
  • Calculation of B-basis values for longitudinal compression strength of a carbon epoxy pre-preg material
  • Development of a basic qualification programme for a deep-water composite riser

Learners who successfully complete the course will receive an NPL Certificate of Completion. Please contact NPL Training for further details.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand how standards are created and their relation to regulations and codes
  • Interpret and use composite materials standards
  • Choose the right test method and standard for qualifying composite materials and certifying structures
  • Understand how to statistically analyse test data to obtain design data for composite materials
