NPL Training is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2026! #NAW2026

NPL Training has offered a Metrology Technician apprenticeship programme since 2017, to internal and external apprentices. We recently welcomed our eighth cohort of apprentices and are looking forward to a ninth cohort joining us this Autumn.

NPL Training apprentices speak highly of their apprenticeship experience with us. Junior Measurement Science Apprentice at NPL, Umar Akram said:

“I love the amount of opportunities at NPL. I get to express myself and be creative whilst also learning, earning and meeting new people.”

The recently revised and updated Level 3 Metrology Technician apprenticeship standard helps apprentices gain the vital metrology knowledge, skills and behaviours required by science, engineering, and industry.

Measurement skills enable organisations and businesses to increase confidence in specifications and performance and boost productivity. Around 6% of all employment in the UK involves taking measurements(1)

Our Level 3 Metrology Technician apprenticeship programme provides an ideal route into skilled employment for technicians working in a range of roles such as measurement research, measurement application, calibration, inspection, quality and process support.

Our apprentices come to us from employers spanning different sectors across England, such as, advanced manufacturing, automotive, life sciences and scientific research — some are early-career apprentices in their first jobs, others are established employees looking to upskill or change roles to address the needs of their businesses.

Visit our training website and get in touch and find out more about the NPL Metrology Technician apprenticeship programme, including the benefits for both employers and apprentices.
