Introduction to Telecoms Networks and Cybersecurity

Telecoms networks are critical infrastructure as they support the economic, political and social life of modern nations. In this course, learners will be given a high-level overview of telecoms network components, telecoms cyber threats and vulnerabilities, and telecoms standards and legislations (with a UK focus). It is suitable for a broad audience, but will be particularly valuable for people:

Studying cybersecurity, computer science or telecoms
Currently employed in the cybersecurity or telecoms sectors
Managers, executives and directors in the telecoms sector

This short, free e-learning course has been developed by the UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL) in partnership with NPL to provide an introductory overview of telecommunications networks and telecoms cybersecurity.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

Describe the main components of a telecoms network and provide examples of both wired and wireless networks
Identify important telecoms threats and vulnerabilities along with high-level approaches for mitigating them
Be aware of the key standards bodies and legislations for telecoms and telecoms cybersecurity (within a UK context)
