Course description

This one-day e-learning course provides an introduction to Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM), the industries where it may be encountered, how it can be measured and how NORM industries are regulated. A basic grounding in physics or chemistry is assumed.

This e-learning course aims to:

  • Introduce the concepts of radioactivity, its occurrence in the environment and radiation dose to help the reader grasp the nature of the hazard posed by NORM.
  • Explain the various ways in which radioactivity can be measured, to help the reader identify suitable methods and instruments for their situation.
  • Provide examples of the occurrence of NORM in specific industries, to help the reader understand the activity levels potentially present in given materials.
  • Provide a basic understanding of legislative requirements to aid in compliance with the law.

Who is it for?

Project managers and scientific staff in the NORM industry, academic or industrial researchers working on NORM.
