Course description

NPL are a government approved apprenticeship training provider, and we deliver apprenticeship training to levy paying employers in England via the apprenticeship service. The Level 3 Metrology Technician Standard was approved for delivery in August 2017 and is the first nationally recognised standard in metrology, the science of measurement.

 

The Metrology Technician apprenticeship is a 3 year programme that includes substantial of on- and off-the-job training to develop the essential metrology knowledge, skills and behaviours required by Metrology Technicians. The programme includes an independent, end point assessment of the apprentice’s occupational competence.

 

The Metrology Technician apprenticeship standard meets the requirements of Registered Engineering Technician (EngTech) and Registered Science Technician (RSciTech). Apprentices will be eligible for registration of EngTech and/or RSciTech on completion of the apprenticeship.

Suitable for all sectors and industries involved in metrology:  Advanced manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, construction, energy, environment, defence and security, healthcare and more. This programme is the ideal route into skilled employment for technicians working in:

  • Measurement research
  • Instrument and equipment calibration, use, test, inspection and type approval
  • Measurement application in the field, laboratory or manufacturing situation
  • Quality and process support
